Cuban Missile Crisis
Based on the U.S. President’s decision making during the Cuban Missile Crisis, considered to have been one of the most serious decision-making situations in human history, students simulate decision making during a crisis. This case study allows students to practice individual decision making as the U.S. President or group decision making as the White House. With the risk of the crisis escalating into a nuclear war, how should you respond to the Soviet Union’s deployment of missiles in Cuba? What instructions regarding specific responses should be given to those on the frontline of the conflict where the unexpected could happen? Although this case study involves the issue of national security among governments, it can be compared to a case in which a corporation must respond to an attack by a hostile party.
